(KRON) — A trial is underway for a former San Bruno elementary school teacher charged with sexually abusing his students. Jeremy Pakyin Yeh, 34, of San Mateo, will be back in a Redwood City courtroom on Wednesday for the fifth day of his jury trial.
Yeh taught 1st and 2nd grades at El Crystal Elementary School and Decimal Allen Elementary School in San Bruno, prosecutors said.
Yeh is charged with 22 counts and he is currently out of custody on $1.3 million bond. If jurors find the ex-teacher guilty, he could face life in prison, prosecutors said.
“Between 2016 and 2022, defendant touched several of his 1st and 2nd grade students on the vagina and buttocks, over the clothes and under the clothes. The first victim came forward in 2018 but was called a liar by the administration at El Crystal Elementary School,” the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office wrote.
After the first victim was accused of lying for speaking out, Yeh continued to molest more students, according to SMCDAO.
In 2022, another victim came forward. Yeh was a 2nd-grade teacher at Decimal Allen Elementary School when he was arrested in 2022 on suspicion of molesting female students, the San Bruno police chief said.
“This is obviously a very disturbing case, one that is weighing heavily on the detectives who are handling it,” San Bruno Police Department Chief Ryan Johansen said after the teacher’s arrest.
The DA’s office said Yeh confessed to police that he inappropriately touched one of the victims. Prosecutors wrote, “Four victims in total were discovered to have been touched by the defendant while he was their teacher.”
Superior Court Judge Michael Wendler is presiding over the jury trial.
