When the Halpin family visited what was left of their Altadena home on Thursday morning, they only saw one thing left: a statue of the Virgin Mary.
The family quickly leaned on their faith to help them say goodbye to their home of 37 years after it was destroyed by the deadly Eaton Fire.
A heartwarming video posted on Instagram showed Peter and Jackie Halpin, alongside their six children and other family members, singing a hymn amid the smoldering rubble that was once their house.

“We gave our pain to Christ and his mother,” Andrew Halpin told KTLA 5. “We prayed a consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and then sang.”
Andrew’s sister, Marie Clare Metcalfe, explained that “faith has always been the foundation of our family, and it will continue to be as we navigate forward.”
Marie said her parent’s house was the “home base” for their ever-growing family as there are 14 grandchildren, with one more on the way. Marie said their sister, Gianna, was living in their parent’s backhouse with her 2-year-old daughter when the fire broke out.
“They lost everything,” she said of the family home.
The video has resonated with many people looking to cope during this difficult time as numerous wildfires tear through parts of Southern California. As of Friday afternoon, the post has received over 20,000 likes and it keeps growing.
It even captured the attention of “Full House” actress Candace Cameron Bure.
“Bless you. Praise the Lord,” she wrote in the comment section.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by the Halpin children to help their parents with their loss. So far they’ve raised over $73,000, which is $13,000 past their original goal of $60,000.
