Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies investigating “suspicious circumstances” on Monday morning discovered a felon with an assault weapon and a high-capacity magazine, the department said in a news release.
Just after 10:30 a.m., deputies responded to the 25000 block of Cornell Street in East Hemet, an unincorporated area of the county.
“When deputies arrived, they encountered Isaiah Robinson, who immediately fled on foot, leaving behind a duffle bag,” the release explained.
Inside that bag was an assault-style rifle with a loaded high-capacity magazine, deputies said.
Robinson, 24, tried to escape by hiding in backyards, but K-9 units and the department’s helicopter tracked him down.
He was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on weapons charges and allegations of resisting or delaying a peace officer, burglary and theft.
Jail records show he is being held at the Southwest Detention Center in lieu of $35,000 bail, and he’s due to appear in court on Thursday.
