The grandchild of a state senator from Southern California was killed in a car crash during the holiday season.
According to a press release issued by the office of Sen. Bob Archuleta (D-Pico Rivera), his 30-year-old grandchild Alex Robles was driving near CA-18 in Apple Valley the night before Christmas Eve when Robles was struck by a driver suspected of being under the influence.
Robles was killed instantly, while the unnamed driver of the vehicle was said to have walked away with no injuries; he was arrested at the scene by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies, Archuleta’s release stated.
Upon hearing the news of the tragedy, Sen. Archuleta and his wife rushed to Victorville to comfort their oldest daughter Sandra and the rest of the family.
Archuleta described Alex as “a lovely and wonderful person.”
“Alex was ready to take on a career that had always been a dream, even at a young age,” he stated. “Alex had already touched many lives and made a difference in this world.”
The senator took the time out to remind all about the dangers of driving while intoxicated, especially during the holidays.
“We have to stress how important it is during the holidays that we do not let anyone drive while they are intoxicated because this can happen to any family at any time,” he said. “This is a profound loss to us, and no one should ever experience a tragedy like this.”
Archuleta represents California’s 30th Senate District, which includes parts of L.A. and Orange counties. He was elected to the position in 2018.
