(KRON) — An elderly San Mateo woman was killed in a head-on vehicle collision Monday afternoon in Gilroy, according to the California Highway Patrol. Crash investigators said the woman, 79, crossed into oncoming traffic on Highway 152 before impact.
CHP officers responded at 3:15 p.m. to Highway 152, west of Highway 156, to multiple reports of the deadly crash. Authorities determined that the unidentified San Mateo woman was driving a 2010 Lexus and collided head-on with a 2023 Kenworth driven by a San Jose resident.
Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to those who have lost a loved one in this tragic incident,” CHP Hollister-Gilroy Area Commander Captain Noel Coady said in a statement. “As we delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this crash, we are reminded that our actions behind the wheel can have profound consequences.”
