Rain returns to the Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Rain returns to the San Francisco Bay Area on Monday. The precipitation will be most widespread through midday, according to the National Weather Service.

Starting overnight, rain began to fall over the North Bay before spreading southward. Bay Area residents can expect precipitation throughout the morning and early afternoon, weather officials said. The heaviest rain will arrive between the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. hours.

North Bay coastal ranges will receive the most rainfall, with up to three-quarters of an inch forecasted. North Bay valleys and the Santa Cruz Mountains are expected to see up to half an inch, according to NWS. Elsewhere in the Bay Area could see up to a quarter of an inch of rainfall.

“The rest of this week’s forecast will remain cool, with another opportunity for rainfall towards the middle of the week,” KRON4 Meteorologist John Shrable said.

NWS also announced a high surf advisory for beaches along the coast that will go into effect Tuesday at 6 a.m. and run through 6. a.m. Wednesday. Breaking waves will be as tall as 12 to 15 feet during the advisory, and people are advised to remain out of the water and keep pets away.
