(KRON) — Philippine Independence Day is on June 12, but celebrations are starting early this weekend in San Jose. Organized by Filipino Americans Coming Together San Jose, the fourth annual Full Jeepney Jam takes place this Friday, June 6.
NPR Tiny Desk winner Ruby Ibarra is set to headline the festivities with a performance lineup of various Filipino-American artists from the Bay Area, such as Aranina, Yamz and Rheyanna May.
The celebration will be at the San Jose Flea Market on 1590 Berryessa Road from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Admission is free for all ages, and there is a $5 fee for on-site parking. The event is a short walk away from the Berryessa/North San Jose BART station.
The celebration will spotlight Filipino artists, food vendors, and designers. Photos of last year’s event can be viewed below.
Ibarra, a Filipino rapper from San Lorenzo, is fresh off a contest win last month that placed her first among nearly 7,500 entrants. She won the national contest with her track “Bakunawa,”

Filipino Americans Coming Together San Jose was established in 2019 to “curate Filipino American cultural events” in the South Bay city. The organization also hosts a celebration for Filipino American History Month, which takes place in October.
Another Filipino culture festival, “Vallejo Pista Sa Nayon,” is set to take place Saturday, June 7 at the Mare Island Coal Sheds in Vallejo. Event information can be viewed here.
