SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie officially cut the ribbon at a ceremony Monday as Revel opened its first electric vehicle (EV) fast charging station in the Bay Area.
The San Francisco location of Revel’s new charging station is at 199 Erie Street in the city’s Mission District neighborhood. The station features “12 320kW chargers, designed and manufactured by Kempower, that are publicly accessible 24/7 to any make & model EV,” said Revel in a news release.
Revel is the main provider of public EV fast charging in New York City and handles the country’s only all-electric rideshare platform. The move by Revel marks the Brooklyn-based company’s first project phase of bringing its fast-charging network to the West Coast.
The expansion plan involves adding more than 125 chargers to the downtown areas of San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, and South San Francisco over the next year.
According to a Revel spokesperson who provided more detail to KRON4, “the future sites that will go into construction over the next 12 months include two by SFO Airport, two additional sites in downtown San Francisco, one in downtown San Jose, and two in Oakland. The price at 199 Erie will be 59 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).”
“San Francisco has always been a leader in electric vehicle adoption, and these new chargers will make it even easier for residents to make the switch to EVs with fast and reliable charging,” said Mayor Daniel Lurie. “We are open for business, and that means attracting new companies and supporting our own businesses to build a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant city.”

Frank Reig, Revel’s Co-Founder and CEO, added, “For years, Revel has operated the largest, fastest, and most reliable fast charging network in New York City. Now we’re bringing our model to the number one EV market in North America. Today’s Mission District opening is an important milestone moment for Revel as we replant our bicoastal roots.”
Last week, Gov. Gavin Newsom boasted that California now has more electric vehicle (EV) chargers than gasoline nozzles. The number of EV chargers in the Golden State is 48 percent more than the number of gasoline nozzles, in what Newsom’s office is calling a “significant milestone.”
