(KRON) – A suspected thief was arrested after swallowing a small bag of suspected narcotics earlier this month, according to the Colma Police Department.
Colma police officers responded to The Home Depot on Colma Boulevard for the report of a theft at approximately 12:12 p.m. on March 6. Responding officers were informed that a man stole merchandise and then fled in a Kia.
An officer noticed a Kia vehicle driving off with a passenger who fit the suspect description. The officer pulled the vehicle over near the intersection of Colma and Junipero Serra boulevards.

According to police, the officers noticed the suspect insert a small plastic bag of what they believe to be narcotics in his mouth. Police said the officer ordered the suspect to spit out what he placed in his mouth. However, the suspect swallowed the small bag.
The suspect, later identified as Jonathan Curry, was arrested for destroying evidence. As more officers arrived, it was determined Curry was the suspected thief.
Curry, a 40-year-old Sacramento resident, was ultimately arrested for shoplifting and possession of a controlled substance, in addition to destroying/concealing evidence. He was taken to a local hospital where he was issued a citation for the charges and released on his promise to appear in court.
According to the police investigation, Curry stole approximately $841.09 worth of merchandise.
