(KRON) — For the second year in a row, San Francisco cannabis lovers will have to trek to a different hill in the city — other than the beloved Hippie Hill — to celebrate 4/20 festivities.
April 20 — known globally as 4/20 — is a holiday observed by marijuana smokers everywhere. For years, you could see huge crowds gathering on that day at Hippie Hill and clouds of smoke billowing from the annual tradition.
San Francisco Recreation and Park Department announced that the Peace, Love and Volo Field Day will again take over Robin Williams Meadow and Hippie Hill on Sunday, April 20. The event features volleyball and kickball tournaments and open play, as well as bocce, spikeball, cornhole, food trucks, and giveaways. Last year’s event brought out some 400 attendees.
“We’re excited to team up with Volo Sports to bring this awesome event back to Golden Gate Park,” said SF Rec and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg. “This event is all about giving parkgoers a fun, fresh way to enjoy the outdoors, connect with friends, and get active.”
In 2024, 4/20 festival organizers canceled the event due to major factors: economic challenges hitting the cannabis industry made it hard to lock down sponsorships and city budget cuts impacted Rec and Park handling event staff coverage.
4/20 lovers, fear not. For those looking to indulge in the cannabis life, SF Space Walk (formerly known as SF Weed Week) takes place April 13 through Apri 20 and features a lineup of events throughout the city.
