Ramen Nagi postpones opening date in Orange County

Originally planned to open Monday, March 17, Ramen Nagi, a Tokyo chain noted for its hakata-style ramen, will push back its opening date to Monday, March 24.

No explanation was given as to why the noodle shop had to postpone its initial opening date.

With locations in Palo Alto, Los Angeles and San Diego, the Tokyo-based ramen chain’s upcoming South Coast Plaza opening will be its first Orange County spot, marking the company’s sixth U.S. location.

Ramen Nagi has developed a cult-like following over the years due, in part, to its tonkotsu ramen, spicy red miso pork, and contemporary ramens that use black garlic, squid ink, basil, olive oil and parmesan. In addition five ramens, the Costa Mesa spot will offer a location-specific ramen available only for only one week.

Guests can also customize their dishes based on preferred noodle, ramen base and toppings. Other menu highlights at Ramen Nagi include karaage chicken, chashu rice, a new veggie gyoza and more.

Starting out as a pop-up in 2004 by founder and master chef Satoshi Ikuta, Ramen Nagi has since ballooned to more than 35 restaurants in Asia and across the U.S. (Fun fact: The original location, located in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Golden Gai, is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Its other locations have limited hours.)

Find it: South Coast Plaza, 3333 Bear Street, Suite 151, Costa Mesa
