Opening in 1985 as a family-owned-and-operated restaurant by former owner Shan Chou, Peking Dragon specializes in Chinese-American fare, with such menu highlights as honey walnut shrimp, garlic fried chicken, orange Chou chicken and sizzling rice soup.

“We’ve been her for about 26 years, continually providing great service with the best dishes,” manager Shane Chou, son of the owner, told the Orange County Register in 2011 when it earned accolades as one of the region’s best Chinese restaurants.

In recent years the restaurant changed ownership. Neither the restaurant owner nor manager were available for comment as to when Peking Dragon might reopen. The restaurant was also listed on the market in late February; when asked for comment about the restaurant listing, the real estate associate politely refused to comment.

Peking Dragon sits inside the coastal enclave’s Lantern Village neighborhood, sandwiched between Del Prado and Pacific Coast Highway, an area noted for its new, chef-driven restaurants like Giana Bakery and Provisions, Maison Cafe and Truly Pizza, as well as new-ish mixed-use buildings featuring retail and luxury housing.

The city’s famed harbor, located approximately one mile away from Lantern Village, is currently undergoing a $550 million overhaul that, once completed, will feature new hotels, restaurants, green spaces, retail and more.
