(KRON) — Authorities in San Rafael are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a man was struck and killed Friday night near Redwood Highway and Marin Center Drive.
San Rafael Police Department officers responded to the area at 10:36 p.m. on reports of a man lying in the roadway. Arriving officers found the man with severe injuries “consistent with being struck by a vehicle,” police said.
Life-saving measures were performed by officers and arriving San Rafael Fire Department paramedics before the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The man was identified as a 46-year-old from Greenbrae. His name was not released pending notification of next of kin.
San Rafael police are urging anyone who was in the area around the time of the fatal collision and saw anything suspicious to contact Detective McCarthy at 415-485-3000.
“Even small details, such as a vehicle driving erratically or evidence of a damaged vehicle, could be crucial to the investigation,” the department said.
The SRPD’s Major Accident Investigations Team is continuing to investigate the deadly crash.
