(KRON) — World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar John Cena has been the talk of the wrestling world following his shocking villainous turn a few weeks ago, aligning with The Rock and Travis Scott (yes, that Travis Scott) and delivering a vicious beatdown to fan-favorite champion Cody Rhodes at the conclusion of the “Elimination Chamber” premium live event on March 1.
The 16-time world champion and actor has been a beloved figure for over two decades, with his last heel run ending in 2003. Cena even broke a world record in 2022 for hundreds of wishes granted with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Now, Cena’s Instagram feed has been notoriously cryptic since day one. His IG bio reads: “Welcome to my Instagram. These images will be posted without explanation, for your interpretation. Enjoy.” In the weeks after his heel turn, wrestling sleuths have been analyzing his posts for any hints that may have foreshadowed his jaw dropping character shift but went undetected by fans.

On March 9, Cena posted an image of Star Wars’ Darth Vader with his signature, menacing, gloved hand extended. So what does it mean? Vader is one of movies’ most notorious villains, but in the end, he turned against his master, Emperor Palpatine, to save his son, Luke. Could this be a clue that Cena will eventually betray The Rock — who also happens to be his boss as a member of the WWE board of directors — and realign with fans? Only time will tell, but the post has certainly sparked speculation.
Fans flooded the comments with theories, ranging from “Remember Anakin was good then went bad but ultimately turned out good again” to “Redeems himself in the end as Vader did but please still kick Cody’s *** at WM,” referencing Cena’s upcoming championship match against Rhodes at “WrestleMania Vegas” (aka WrestleMania 41) in April.
Another user wrote, “There is still good in you John Cena it’s never too late to redeem yourself,” while someone else pondered, “Who is Luke ? Cody ?”
Could John Cena eventually turn back to the light? Time will tell as this story unfolds throughout the rest of his 2025 Farewell Tour, leading up to his retirement at the end of the year. Cena famously says, “You Can’t See Me,” but maybe fans are getting a glimpse here of what’s to come.
