Salesforce joins growing list of companies ending diversity hiring initiatives

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Salesforce Inc. has joined the growing list of companies ending its diversity hiring initiatives. The San Francisco-based customer relationship management (CRM) maker removed previous language about diversity and inclusion being a “core value” from its annual financial disclosure, which was filed Wednesday.

The move follows the signing of a series of executive orders from President Donald Trump targeting the elimination of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across government and the private sector. The rollback of DEI initiatives at Salesforce follows similar recent moves from other Bay Area tech giants including Google and Facebook parent company Meta.

“While we are not specifying representation goals, we remain committed to our core value of equality,” said a Salesforce spokesperson, speaking to Bloomberg.

The rollback of DEI initiatives is not limited to just tech companies. Major retailers like Target have also ended such initiatives, leading to calls for a 40-day boycott of the Minneapolis-based retail giant.

In its latest disclosure, Salesforce also removed language describing how some executive compensation was tied to employee diversity measures.

“We value the equality of every individual at our company and in our communities and are dedicated to fostering a workplace that complies with these protections, creating an inclusive culture where every individual feels seen, heard and valued,” Salesforce stated in its filing Wednesday.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, a San Francisco native, has long been outspoken on social issues including support for LGBTQ+ employees and funding for initiatives to help the city’s unhoused population.

Other major companies that have rolled back DEI hiring initiatives since Trump returned to office include Amazon, Walmart and Deloitte.
