(KRON) — In a time when we appear to be paying more for everything from avocados to eggs, Californians may have got some good news at the pump this week. Gas prices across the state dropped around seven cents a gallon last week to a statewide average of $4.74, according to the American Automobile Association.
The reason, according to AAA, was lower oil prices. The average price for a gallon of gas nationally also dropped by one penny last week to $3.11. While the drop was less significant, that’s still 27 cents lower than this time last year.
AAA said drivers could see fluctuations at the pump due to markets and retailers reacting to the various conflicting messages on tariffs emerging from the Trump White House. The higher cost of summer-grade gasoline could also be a factor.
California gas prices around the state last week:
- San Francisco: $4.91
- Oakland: $4.89
- San Jose: $4.80
- Sacramento: $4.84
- Fresno: $4.75
- Stockton: $4.62
The national average price per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained flat at 34 cents, AAA said.
Citing data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), AAA said gasoline demand increased from 8.45 barrels per day to 8.87 b/d in that same time period. Total domestic gasoline supply meanwhile, decreased from 248.3 million bars to 246.8.
Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.
