(KRON) – WNBA champion and Bay Area native Sabrina Ionescu was announced as an investor and commercial advisor for the Bay Football Club.
Ionescu, who is also a three-time All-Star and Olympic gold medalist, announced her involvement with Bay FC on Instagram. Ionescu captioned the post by saying, “love for the Bay.”
The Walnut Creek native said, “As someone with deep ties to the Bay Area, this opportunity holds even more significance, and I am truly honored to be a part of such a special endeavor to continue to grow women’s sports.”


Bay FC CEO Brady Stewart called Ionescu “the ultimate innovator.” She was also the first women’s basketball player to have a unisex signature collection with Nike.
“Her roots in the Bay Area and commitment to being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports represents who we are at Bay FC,” said Stewart. “We look forward to partnering with her to continue reaching our goal of being a top global sports franchise.”
On Saturday, March 15, Bay FC will play its first game of the season against the Utah Royals in Sandy, Utah. The next Saturday, Bay FC will host Racing Louisville FC in its home opener at PayPal Park in San Jose.
Ionescu attended Miramonte High School in Orinda. Ionescu is a guard for the reigning WNBA champions New York Liberty.
