(KRON) — Fire officials are sounding the alarm over areas across the East Bay considered a high hazard for fire danger. According to new maps from the Cal Fire State Fire Marshal, “fire zones” have grown because of droughts and dangerous wildfire seasons.
Parts of cities like Richmond, Antioch, Concord, and Danville are included because of the hundreds of acres of vegetation in unoccupied areas. Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered the state to update the severity maps following the Los Angeles wildfires.
This is the first update since 2011. Officials are urging people to check which zone they live in — in case of emergency evacuations.
