Gene Hackman’s family ‘devastated’ by his sudden death

Gene Hackman’s family is breaking their silence on the death of the actor and his wife, Betsy Arakawa.

The two-time Oscar winner’s daughters Elizabeth and Leslie Hackman and his granddaughter Annie released a statement obtained by KTLA 5 officially announcing the passing of the couple.

“He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us, he was always just Dad and Grandpa,” they explained. “We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss.”

During a welfare check on Wednesday, authorities found Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their dog dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home.

An affidavit for a search warrant from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department deemed their deaths as “suspicious.”

“Affiant believes that the circumstances surrounding the death of the two deceased individuals to be suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation,” the document says.

Elizabeth and Leslie are Hackman’s daughters with his first wife Faye Maltese. The couple also have a son, Christopher. Hackman and Maltese were married in 1956 and divorced in 1986.
