(KRON) — The person found dead at an illegal dumping site in Vallejo last December has been identified. The man was identified Wednesday by the Solano County Coroner’s Office (SCCO) as 58-year-old American Canyon resident James Edward Oakley II.
A Vallejo public works crew conducted a cleanup on Dec. 24 at an illegal dumping site, police said. Officials said they found Oakley II dead after it was later discovered he was crushed among the debris crews were cleaning up.
SCCO determined that Oakley’s cause of death was due to “blunt force injuries, likely sustained accidentally by heavy equipment,” a press release from the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) said.
On Tuesday, the Solano County District Attorney’s Office determined there was “insufficient evidence” to file criminal charges against the city.
“The City sends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased person. This was a tragic incident,” Vallejo City Manager Andrew Murray said in the release.
