(KRON) — An 8-month-old baby from Oakland was killed in a crash in Tennessee on Friday, according to a GoFundMe posted by the victim’s family.
Nai’lani Shunee D’cole Carnegie was born on June 4, 2024 and died on Feb. 21, 2025. Her family was traveling to Arkansas for a funeral when she was killed.
The crash happened on Interstate 40 in Memphis, Tenn. Nai’lani was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries.
The crash involved several vehicles, one of which landed on its side. Four others were hospitalized.
Memphis police said a car stopped on the highway and was rear-ended, which caused the crash.
“As we navigate this painful loss, we are faced with the overwhelming task of bringing Nai’lani home to California to be laid to rest among her loved ones,” the GoFundMe said. It is requesting $15,000 in donations.
