(KRON) – License plate readers assisted in locating a hit-and-run suspect that left a woman in critical condition, according to the Emeryville Police Department.
A woman was walking in Bevmo’s back parking lot when she was struck by a vehicle from behind around 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to Emeryville PD, the driver of the vehicle was driving at an accelerated rate of speed. The suspected driver, later identified as 40-year-old Frederick B. Collins, continued traveling onto Shellmound Street fleeing the scene.
Police said officers promptly used Flock license plate reader cameras to locate Collins’ vehicle and an image of the suspect. Collins’ car was found in Oakland where he later returned around 7 a.m. on Thursday.
Collins was arrested and taken to the Santa Rita Jail.
The victim, according to police, remains in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this hit-and-run is asked to contact Detective Ed Mayoraga at 510-596-3733.
