(KRON) – A mother attempted to give police false information after her son crashed into a fire hydrant and fled the scene, the Fremont Police Department said.
Fremont police officers responded to Lowry Road and Falcon Drive for the report of a hit-and-run on Feb. 14. The vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant, causing water to splash profusely. The car was left at the scene, according to Fremont PD.
Officers located the registered owner of the vehicle who said that she “lost control of the vehicle and hit the fire hydrant,” said Fremont PD.
However, Fremont PD said surveillance footage proved the driver was spinning donuts in the car at the intersection which caused the collision with the fire hydrant. After the crash, footage showed two juveniles fleeing from the car.
The woman admitted that her son was driving her car when the collision occurred and she lied to protect him.
According to police, “Both cases were sent for charging.”
