Liccardo joins House ‘Rapid Response’ group to fight Trump executive orders

(KRON) — A Bay Area congressman has joined a Democratic task force in the House formed to push back against President Donald Trump’s onslaught of executive orders. Rep. Sam Liccardo (CA-16) has joined the House Democrats Rapid Response Task Force & Litigation Working Group, his office announced on Friday.

Liccardo, a former federal prosecutor and San Jose mayor, will bring “real world experience to help fight back against Trump’s unconstitutional overreach,” his office said in a statement. The House task force will work with “pro-democracy partners” to limit or halt actions from the Trump administration it views as overreaching.

“The Trump administration’s first month has been mired in unconstitutional and illegal executive actions, or what I call ‘executive disorders,’” Liccardo said. “Many of these actions have been taken under the guise of government efficiency, but have wrought the opposite effect, as we witness the administration scramble to rescind terminations of key former employees responsible for nuclear safety, for example.”

“The tragic consequences will become increasingly painful to millions of Americans, as indiscriminate cuts to the Federal Aviation Administration will make air travel more perilous, cuts to the Forest Service will make California more vulnerable to wildfires, and layoffs at the IRS will delay refund checks to taxpayers,” Liccardo continued.

According to the congressman, more than 70 cases have already been filed, and courts have issued 29 injunctions limiting or halting Trump administration actions. Among those cases, two separate cases were filed this month arguing that the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and Elon Musk’s role in the agency without Senate confirmation, violates the Constitution’s Appointment’s Clause.

A class action lawsuit has also been filed aimed at the Trump administration’s abrupt termination of thousands of probationary federal employees.

“Litigation has successfully blocked most of President Trump’s ‘Executive Disorders’ and he and Musk’s minions continue flailing and failing,” Liccardo said. “Congress must use all lawful means necessary to protect the American people and our Constitution.”
