The Los Angeles Police Department is pursuing a fleeing tow truck Friday afternoon. Sky5 is overhead.
The pursuit began a few minutes after 1 p.m. near Sawtelle and Santa Monica, according to Officer Miller with the LAPD.
Per Officer Miller with LAPD media relations, they are following a possibly stolen vehicle taken around 108pm in the area of Santa Monica and Sawtelle.
The tow truck, which is suspected of being stolen, was moving at slow speeds in the San Fernando Valley as of about 1:45 p.m., possibly after spike strips damaged its tires.
One front tire appeared to be completely gone, with the truck riding on the rim, with a rear tire also visibly deflated.
The truck hit speeds over 40 mph when going downhill on Sepulveda Boulevard, though the driver appeared to have trouble controlling the vehicle on curves.
The driver also appeared to be speaking with police through the truck’s open window, though it was unclear what he saying.
