(KRON) — The Antioch Police Department said a driver was arrested after he allegedly fled a police-enforced traffic stop then soon crashed into an occupied home Thursday morning.
Antioch PD said patrol officers spotted an Infiniti with several vehicle code violations at 9:11 a.m. in the area of E. 18th Street and Cavallo Road. Police said the driver sped away as soon as the officer exited his vehicle, but there was no police pursuit due to public safety concerns.
Police said the driver, later identified as 40-year-old Terrance Benjamin, lost control and collided into a home in the intersection of Garrow Drive and E. Tregallas Road. Antioch police confirmed that those individuals struck inside the home were not injured.
Police said that multiple agencies, including Antioch Public Works, arrived on scene to evaluate the structural integrity of the residence.
Investigators said Benjamin tried to evade officers by running through several neighborhood yards. After an extensive search, police said Benjamin was located in a nearby yard with the assist of drones, California Highway Patrol’s Air Support unit and a K-9 officer from the Oakley Police Department.
Benjamin was treated at a local hospital and later booked into jail. He faces several charges, including reckless evading a police officer, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm in public, concealed carry of a firearm in vehicle, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, and hit and run.
