(KRON) — One of San Francisco’s most popular brunch spots is opening its first East Bay location. Sweet Maple is opening next week in downtown Walnut Creek, the restaurant announced Thursday in a news release.
Sweet Maple’s grand opening will be Monday, Feb. 24 at 1523 Giammona Drive on the northern part of downtown Walnut Creek. It is about one block south of the Target. The 3,600-square-foot restaurant with a capacity of 150 people will also include outdoor patio seating.
The Walnut Creek location marks the fifth Sweet Maple to open, joining Palo Alto, Cupertino, San Francisco and Santa Monica (Los Angeles).
The Sweet Maple takes over the space formerly occupied by Japanese restaurant Tozai Izakaya, which closed in 2022. It neighbors Tacos Walnut Creek and Skipolini’s Pizza. Sweet Maple adds to the recent list of establishments set to open in the East Bay suburb: Hilton Garden Inn and Original Joe’s.
Known for its “Millionaire’s Bacon,” Sweet Maple has gained popularity among brunch goers since opening its first San Francisco location on Sutter Street in 2010.

Sweet Maple is one of many Bay Area restaurants operated by Hoyul Steven Choi — a Bay Area resident for more than 35 years since emigrating from South Korea. The restauranteur has built a deep collection of known establishments in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, including Kitchen Story, Blackwood, Surisan and Berkeley Social Club. He has restaurants in Oakland, Berkeley, Palo Alto, Cupertino and Mountain View.
“With an emphasis on breakfast, brunch, and dinner menus inspired by classic American dishes with Asian culinary influences, Choi’s restaurants serve delicious artisanal foods to California communities while curating exceptional dining experiences,” a press release states.
