A woman in her 60s was killed after a collision between two vehicles in the Sunland neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
The crash was reported in the area of 8200 W Foothill Boulevard at around 4:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The driver of an SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, and “ping ponged” off several vehicles before colliding head-on with a Mercedes.
Sergeant Jodie McGee with the LAPD told KTLA that, upon arrival, the decedent was found in a back seat of one of the involved vehicles.
She was identified by LAFD only as a 60-year-old woman. Her identity was withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
The driver of that same vehicle, who was identified only as a 60-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. He was traveling at a high rate of speed, McGee said, though it wasn’t clear exactly how fast.
McGee said authorities believed that one of those two were experiencing a medical emergency before the crash, although it wasn’t yet clear which one was.
In all, seven vehicles were involved in the collision, though a majority of which were “sideswipes,” McGee said. One other person, a 35-year-old woman, was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
No additional details were immediately made available.
