The Los Angeles Police Department is looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a man crossing an Exposition Park street in a wheelchair, severely injuring him in the process.
The collision occurred Jan. 11 at about 6:20 p.m. as the victim, a man in his 60s whose identity has not been released, crossed Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Dalton Avenue in his wheelchair, police said in a news release.
Video shared by the LAPD shows a dark-colored small SUV in the No. 2 lane unsuccessfully attempt to swerve around the wheelchair, then continue down MLK Boulevard without stopping. Police say the SUV then turned south on Harvard Boulevard.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in intensive care.
A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to the driver.
Police also remind pedestrians to “exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road.”
