(KRON) — Rescue crews saved two people and six dogs who were trapped on an island in San Jose’s Guadalupe River on Thursday, according to the San Jose Fire Department.
Firefighters responded at 4:32 p.m. to the river near Coleman Avenue and Autumn Parkway on the report of people trapped on an island. Crews used boats to rescue two adults and six dogs, four of which were puppies, SJFD said.
One of the rescued adults was evaluated and warmed up by responders. That person refused transport to a hospital for further medical attention, authorities said.
San Jose Animal Care and Services assisted with the rescued puppies and dogs.
Mayor Matt Mahan took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to thank the fire department “for protecting our people and puppies.”
