Man stabbed by fiancee, couple violated court order by cohabitating: DA

(KRON) – An argument between an engaged couple escalated into a stabbing attack and the couple later moved in together despite court orders, according to the San Mateo District Attorney’s Office. 

On Dec. 16, 2021, Daly City resident Sandra Aurelia Duarte, 45, and her fiance/victim were at their friend’s house consuming several drinks, according to the DA’s office. The pair then went to her apartment where they reportedly argued about how many people they were inviting to their wedding. 

The victim informed Duarte that he was leaving to go to his home and she grabbed a knife and began to attack him, according to the DA. Duarte almost severed the victim’s middle finger when he threw up his hands to protect himself. She also caused a severe laceration by cutting his forearm, according to the district attorney. 

After the alleged attack, the victim sat down to call the authorities. Duarte began dumping liquid over the blood in an attempt to clean the wound, according to the DA.  

When police arrived at the scene, they saw blood splattered on the door, according to the DA. 

Officers ordered Duarte to leave the apartment and she refused and retreated back into the home, said the DA’s office. Duarte was forcibly taken into custody by police, said the DA’s office. 

The couple were in their ninth year of their relationship. 

The next year, the couple violated the court-issued restraining order by cohabitating.

Duarte was arrested and booked for destroying evidence, assault with a deadly weapon/assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and inflict corporal injury on spouse/cohabitant. She is currently out of custody on a $100,000 bail bond. 

A jury trial assignment was scheduled for Friday morning.
