(KRON) — A pedestrian was killed in a traffic crash in Hayward Monday morning and the driver was detained, according to police. The Hayward Police Department said officers responded at around 7:53 a.m. on a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the intersection of Tennyson Road and Calaroga Avenue.
Responding officers located the driver and the pedestrian on the scene. The pedestrian, a 26-year-old Hayward woman, was found unresponsive with major injuries related to the crash.
She was taken to a hospital where she later died.
The driver, a 36-year-old man, was detained. According to police, he is currently being treated at a nearby hospital and was placed on a mental health hold.
The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Police say they are still investigating to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
