SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Another atmospheric river storm is barreling toward the Bay Area this week, bringing “excessive rainfall” that could lead to flooding, the National Weather Service advises. A flood watch is due to take effect Wednesday night and remain in effect through Saturday night, the weather service said.
Flooding is most likely in coastal areas and coastal mountains. The watch will be valid in the following counties:
- Marin
- Monterey
- San Francisco
- San Mateo
- Santa Cruz
- Sonoma
Impacts of the storm potentially include heavy rain that could flood rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying flood-prone locations. Urban areas, and those with poor drainage could also be susceptible, the NWS warns. Low-water crossings could also potentially flood.

This week’s storm follows closely on the heels of a deadly atmospheric river storm last week, in which at least two people lost their lives in weather-related incidents.
