(KRON) — On the same day a Safeway near San Francisco’s Fillmore District closed for good word came that the grocery chain would soon be closing another Bay Area location. The Pinole Safeway at 1421 Tara Hill Drive will close in early April, KRON4.com has confirmed.
All employees at the location will be transferred to other stores in the area, a Safeway spokesperson told KRON4.
“We have been proud to serve the City of Pinole over the years, and this decision was not made lightly,” a company spokesperson said. “With our lease ending, we have carefully considered our options and decided to shift our strategy.”
Safeway, the spokesperson said, remains “dedicated to serving the Pinole community” at a location in nearby Hercules.
“The 65,775 square-foot Hercules Safeway offers a variety of fresh offerings, local products, and ready-to-serve options, as well as a fuel station and pharmacy,” a spokesperson said.
The Hercules location at 4080 San Pablo Avenue is about three and a half miles from the Pinole store.
