(KRON) — A 15-year-old boy was arrested Thursday in connection to a fatal shooting behind a Redwood City Whole Foods store, the Redwood City Police Department announced. Redwood City PD responded to the initial incident at 1:40 a.m. Thursday behind a Whole Foods on the 500 block of Adams Street on a report of someone down in the middle of the street.
Arriving at the scene, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. Redwood City Fire personnel and paramedics responded but the subject — an 18-year-old Redwood City resident — died at the scene.
On Thursday afternoon, investigators worked to identify persons of interest who recently had contact with the victim. After a person of interest was identified, Redwood City PD received a call for service regarding a family disturbance.
The call, police said, alleged that a 15-year-old boy assaulted another family member. The boy was believed to be a person of interest in the shooting.
The teen was located by officers and investigators and subsequently arrested for assaulting a family member. During the course of the investigation, probable cause was developed to arrest the teen for the murder of the 18-year-old victim.
He was into San Mateo County Youth Services Center Juvenile Hall and charged with murder.
Due to his age, police are not releasing his name at this time. Police say this appears to have been an isolated incident between two people who knew each other, not a random act of violence. There is no indication of any ongoing threat to the community.
