(KRON) — A man driving a stolen cement mixer truck led Vallejo police on a chaotic chase Monday.
Vallejo Police Department officers were alerted to a vehicle theft in progress at a business on Broadway Street, police said. The thief stole a large cement truck, plowed it through the business’ roll-up door, and caused $50,000 worth of property damages, police said.
The reckless driver ran through red lights and drove into oncoming traffic while attempting to evade law enforcement, VPD said.

After officers cancelled their pursuit due to public safety concerns, the truck crashed into a utility police on Alabama Street. Witnesses helped officers find the fleeing suspect.
“Community members provided critical information, leading officers to a nearby residence. A perimeter was established, and officers conducted a ‘surround and callout.’ Despite the suspect refusing to cooperate, he was taken into custody after a brief struggle,” the police department wrote.
The suspected thief had outstanding warrants for violating a restraining order and violating his probation terms. He was booked into Solano County Jail on multiple felony charges, and the cement truck was returned to the business, police said.
“Vallejo PD thanks the community members whose quick action and witness statements played a key role in this arrest,” VPD wrote. The arrested man’s name was not released by police.
