SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — As an atmospheric river storm pounded the Bay Area Tuesday, San Francisco received record rainfall totals. Preliminary totals in downtown San Francisco were 2.53 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
That smashed a previous record of 2.22 inches set way back in 1887. San Francisco International Airport, meanwhile, got 1.54 inches of rain, according to the NWS. That breaks a previous daily record of 1.30 inches set back in 1991.
Across the city, trees fell on Tuesday including one that smashed an outdoor parklet, and another that left someone with minor injuries. There was also flooding in the North Bay, which resulted in a mudslide that sent an unoccupied home crashing down into the Russian River.
Wednesday is expected to bring a brief respite in the rain before another storm moves in Thursday.
