Soggy forecast: How much rain will Bay Area receive this week?

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – It’s a relatively calm Monday morning with just a few sprinkles here and there before rain picks up again this afternoon. Rain intensity will increase, especially after sunset tonight, leading into our stormiest day of the forecast tomorrow.

Daytime highs on Monday will peak in the 50s, making it a cool and cloudy day even before rainfall arrives. We will continue to see an active forecast through Friday before sunshine and dry skies prevail into the weekend.

Between Monday night and Friday, 3 to 6 inches of rain is possible for the North Bay, according to the National Weather Service. The greater Bay Area region is forecasted to receive 2 to 4 inches of rainfall. Higher elevations could see 6 to 8 inches.

“Our biggest concerns are flooding of creeks and streams,” weather officials said, “and an increased risk for downed trees due to the combination of wind and moist soils.”

A flood watch is in effect for the Bay Area from Monday at 4 p.m. through Wednesday at 4 a.m., according to NWS.

Sunrise in San Francisco is at 7:12 a.m. Sunset is at 5:36 p.m.
