(KRON) — A San Francisco man pleaded no contest Friday to stabbing a man over a dozen times outside of a San Bruno bar, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Nineteen-year-old Marvin Anthony Dismuke was with 20-year-old Francis Eugene Morato outside of Newell’s Cocktail Lounge on Oct. 28, 2023, shooting patrons with an Orbeez gel gun, the DA’s office said. According to prosecutors, a 36-year-old man contacted the two and asked why they were shooting at people with the gel gun.
In response, a fistfight broke out, and Dismuke took out a butterfly knife. Dismuke then repeatedly stabbed the victim while the DA’s office said Morato continued to kick and punch him in the head. The victim fell to the ground in a fetal position, where Dismuke continued to stab the man. The victim suffered approximately 20 stab wounds, prosecutors said.
Witnesses of the brutal attack were able to stop the aggressors, the DA’s office said. The victim was rushed to an area hospital where he was placed in a medically induced coma and had his spleen removed in emergency surgery.
San Bruno Police Department officers responding to the scene found Dismuke covered in blood and in possession of the butterfly knife.
On Friday, Dismuke, now 21 years old, pleaded no contest to:
- Assault with a deadly weapon with an enhancement for great bodily injury
- Battery causing serious bodily injury with an enhancement for use of a deadly weapon
- Resisting arrest
The plea deal will give Dismuke a maximum of five years in prison, according to the DA’s office. A felony charge of possessing drugs or alcohol in jail was also dismissed as part of the no contest plea, according to court records.
Sentencing in Dismuke’s case is set for March 4.
Morato pleaded not guilty to the charges of battery causing serious bodily injury and assault likely to produce bodily injury. His case was continued to Wednesday for jury trial assignment.
