(KRON) – The Hayward Police Department has arrested a suspect in the city’s first homicide of the year.
At 9:12 a.m. on Sunday, Hayward police officers responded to the 500 block of Ramos Avenue following the report of a landlord being shot.
Upon arrival, officers found a 68-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite medical personnel responding to the scene, the victim was pronounced dead.
The victim’s name is currently being withheld, said Hayward PD.
Larry Jose Lopez, according to the detectives, is the suspect believed to have shot the elderly victim. Lopez, 43, was arrested and booked into the Santa Rita Jail for suspicion of murder the same day as the shooting.
Hayward PD said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to the homicide is asked to contact Detective Reichmuth at 510-293-7176.
