(KRON) — A Santa Rosa man and his mother are in custody after the former allegedly shot his father dead on Monday, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said. The man had assaulted his father several days before the homicide, per the sheriff’s office.
The suspect, 38-year-old Cody Molica, called the sheriff’s office at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday to say that he shot and killed his father while his mother was present. The shooting happened on the 4300 block of Stony Point Road.
Deputies arrested Molica outside the house for murder. His father, 80-year-old Richard Molica, was found dead on the living room floor with a gunshot wound.
Cody’s mother, 72-year-old Beverly Molica, was found by detectives in Vallejo. She was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and accessory.
On Jan. 21, Cody was arrested for elder abuse after he allegedly pushed Richard down during an argument. He is also accused of threatening to kill his parents and himself during the argument.
He was released from jail the next day on conditions including that he could not contact his father or possess firearms.
Both Cody and Beverly are being held in Sonoma County Jail with no bail.
