(KRON) — Homelessness is the top issue for San Jose residents, according to the results of a survey shared by Mayor Matt Mahan. In the annual survey, addressing the homeless issue was mentioned almost twice as much as any other issue.
Behind homelessness, providing more affordable housing was the no. 2 issue for residents surveyed, followed by improving public safety and reducing crime.
The complete breakdown of the top 10 priorities for San Jose residents is as follows:

| 8. | Address rent control issues | 5% |
| 9. | Improve public transportation | 4% |
| 10 | Enforce traffic laws | 4% |
“Residents are asking us to get back to basics by addressing key issues like temporary and affordable housing, public safety, and cost of living,” Mahan said. “We’re listening and taking action to build a stronger, safer San Jose for all.”
