(KRON) — The Marin County Sheriff’s Office is introducing a furry new addition to its Specialized Investigative Unit. K-9 Kiki, a springer spaniel, is specially trained in the detection of several types of drugs, authorities said.
Kiki and her handler Detective Schneider passed their certification test on Tuesday and are now ready to be deployed, according to the sheriff’s office. Kiki is able to detect the odor of fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine.

The spaniel was born in Ireland on March 3, 2023, and is named after Kiki Camarena, a Department of Drug Enforcement Administration special agent who was killed in the line of duty.
The sheriff’s office said Kiki’s favorite off-duty activities range from playing fetch or chasing squirrels.
“Kiki loves attention and can commonly be found laying on her back waiting to receive belly rubs,” MCSO wrote on social media. “Kiki is very social and would love to make new friends so please come pay her a visit and say hi!”
