(KRON) — A cat found injured on Highway 101 in Sonoma County was rescued by deputies and a good Samaritan on Thursday, authorities said.
A Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office deputy trainee and a field training officer were patrolling on Highway 101 just south of the Bicentennial Lane exit when they saw a woman running on the roadway. Fearing that the woman would be injured by oncoming traffic, they stopped to help, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputies learned that the woman was trying to save an injured cat that was on the side of the highway. After securing the hurt kitty, the deputies made sure the woman got back on her way safely and transported the cat to the VCA Animal Care Center of Sonoma.
The sheriff’s office is reminding the community that if an animal is found needing help, pull over somewhere safe and call 911. “We want to keep you and our animal friends safe!” the agency said.
