Benioff: CEOs of today will be last to manage just humans

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The CEOs of today will be the last to manage all-human workforces, according to Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. Benioff made the comments in Davos, Switzerland Wednesday while speaking to Axios.

“We are really moving into a world now of managing humans and agents together,” he told Axios, while speaking at the World Economic Forum. Benioff’s remarks were also reported on by CNN.

“From this point forward… we will be managing not only human workers but also digital workers,” Benioff reportedly said while speaking on a panel Thursday.

While in Davos, Benioff also reportedly talked about using generative AI “agents,” which the CEO described as “digital labor,” highlighting Salesforce’s Agentforce.

“Because I’m using Agentforce, I just have that much more productivity,” he told Axios. Benioff also said he might “redeploy” support agents in sales positions at Salesforce because those employees “don’t have as much to do because Agentforce is so productive for them.”

While there have been increasing worries about AI replacing human workers, Benioff said that AI and humans can work together to “create a higher level of success.”

“AI is kind of becoming our partner to help us run our lives, run our businesses, to help us to deliver a new level of productivity,” he reportedly said. Benioff, who is a San Francisco native, did add that those productivity gains could be achieved without a larger “human workforce.”
