ORANGE COUNTY GIRLS WATER POLO TOP 10
(Records through Sunday, Jan. 19)
1. Mater Dei (14-2): The Monarchs are the top seed for the Newport Invite, which runs Thursday through Saturday at Foothill High. Mater Dei lost in overtime to Newport Harbor 11-10 last week but is 1-1 against the Sailors.

2. Orange Lutheran (15-2): Sophomore attacker Eve Webb scored three goals in an 11-5 victory at San Marcos on Saturday. The Lancers are seeded second for the Newport Invite.

3. Newport Harbor (17-3): Sophomore attacker Madison Mack scored the winner in overtime to lift the Sailors past host Mater Dei 11-10 last week. Newport Harbor is seeded third for its invitational this week.

4. Foothill (10-8): The Knights continued to show their determination in a 9-8 loss against surging Newport Harbor last week.

5. Laguna Beach (10-7): The Breakers exploded for nine goals in the first period in a 19-7 win against Woodbridge in the Pacific Coast League last week.

6. Corona del Mar (14-5): The Sea Kings defeated Huntington Beach 15-8 and Los Alamitos 15-7 last week to improve to 4-0 in the Sunset League.

7. San Clemente (15-6): The Tritons’ 7-0 run last week included an 8-6 win against Beckman in the South Coast League and the championship at the San Diego Beaches tournament. Tritons coach Logan Powell praised the play of UC Santa Barbara-bound senior Phoebe DeMoss.

8. JSerra (11-3): The Lions fell to Orange Lutheran 11-3 and Foothill 7-4 last week. They play host to Mater Dei on Wednesday.

9. Beckman (17-6): The Patriots play host to San Clemente on Tuesday in a second-round showdown in the South Coast League.

10. Los Alamitos (14-11): The Griffins face an important Sunset League match at Huntington Beach (13-9, 2-2) on Tuesday after a forfeit against Edison (11-10, 2-2) last week dropped them to 1-3 in league. Los Alamitos coach Robert Grayeli said his team forfeited the match because of his presence outside of the pool at Edison while serving a one-game suspension for a red card. Los Alamitos bounced back to capture the Downey tournament. The Griffins’ JV captured the Chino Hills tournament over the weekend.
