SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Recology San Francisco is reminding residents that Friday, Jan. 17, is the final day for curbside Christmas tree pickup as part of the city’s tree recycling and composting efforts.
For the past two weeks, Recology SF said crews have driven through every street in San Francisco, collecting thousands of discarded Christmas trees.
The annual curbside tree pickup program began on Jan. 2 and runs through Jan. 17. Residents should place their tree next to their curbside collection bins (as pictured below) the night before their scheduled pickup day to ensure collection.
To prevent contamination, Recology SF said all trees must be:
- Free of decorations, tinsel, nails, stands, and lights
- Not placed in plastic bags
- Cut in half if taller than six feet
Natural wreaths are also accepted, but metal wires and frames must be removed before disposal.
While Jan. 17 is the official deadline, residents who still have trees past that date can request a final pickup by emailing customerservice@recologysf.com with their address. Recology SF will make one last round of collections on Monday, Jan. 20, and Tuesday, Jan. 21.
