SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that a man has been charged with multiple felonies in connection to shooting at a Muni bus in the city’s Mission Bay neighborhood on Monday.
SF DA Brooke Jenkins said Adolph Patrick Greene, 58, pleaded not guilty to all charges, and denied all allegations during his arraignment on Wednesday.
According to court documents, on Jan. 13 at 6 a.m., Greene kept walking in the middle of the intersection at Fourth and Berry Streets after the streetlight had changed, blocking the path of an active Muni bus. When the bus attempted to drive forward and steer around him, Greene allegedly stopped in front of the bus, walked towards it then removed a revolver from his jacket.
The DA said Green “fired one shot at the bus, which went through the windshield and a passenger seat then walked away.” There were as many as 20 passengers on the bus when the incident occurred, said Jenkins.
“I am grateful there was no loss of life or serious injury in this shocking shooting,” said DA Jenkins in a news release. “Public transit plays a vital role in our city and must be safe for everyone, including drivers and passengers.”
The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) said officers arrested Greene after locating him near the scene. SFPD Marine Unit officers said it recovered the suspected revolver from the water in Mission Creek Channel.
DA Jenkins said Greene has been detained pending trial due to being considered a public safety risk, and no bail has been set.
The DA’s office said Greene was charged with the following:
- one count of discharging of a firearm at an occupied motor vehicle (PC 246)
- assault with a firearm (PC 245(a)(2))
- assault with a deadly weapon against a public transit employee (PC 245.2)
- one count of possession of a firearm with a prior conviction (PC 29900(a)(1))
- one count of possession of a firearm by felon (PC 29800(a)(1))
- one count of carrying a loaded firearm by a prohibited person (PC 25850(a))
- one count of carrying a concealed a firearm by a prohibited person (PC25400(a)(2))
- possession of ammunition (PC 30305(a)(1))
- one count of destroying evidence (PC 135)
Greene’s next court date is scheduled for Jan. 21.
Despite charges being filed, the DA’s office said this case remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411, starting the message with “SFPD.”
