(KRON) — A man faces gun-related charges after a Hayward police K-9 located a handgun hidden inside a home over the weekend, the Hayward Police Department announced Wednesday.
Police responded to a residence in Hayward after a man allegedly entered his estranged family’s home and assaulted an elderly relative, according to authorities. At the time of the alleged assault, the suspect was armed with a handgun.
After the man was detained, officers learned that he had hidden the gun somewhere inside the house where the family and children live. The family expressed a “strong desire” to have the weapon located and removed, Hayward PD said.
Officer Higgins and K-9 Arwin responded to conduct a search of the residence. K-9 Arwin was able to quickly find the hidden gun and alert his handler.
The suspect was arrested and charged with gun-related offenses and criminal threats, police said.
