(KTLA) – Two New York Yankees fans who interfered with Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts‘ foul ball catch during the World Series have been banned indefinitely from attending MLB games, the New York Post reported Friday.
The incident occurred in the first inning of Game 4 when Betts caught a foul ball off Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres along the right-field line. Video and replays showed the fans, identified as Austin Capobianco and his friend John Peter, grabbing Betts’ glove and his free hand as he tried to secure the ball.
The umpire immediately ruled Torres out due to fan interference and stadium security ejected the fans. They were also banned from attending Game 5 at Yankee Stadium, which proved to be the final game of the series.

In a letter from a Major League Baseball official obtained by the New York Post, the league told Capobianco and Peter, “Your conduct posed a serious risk to the health and safety of the player and went far over the line of acceptable fan behavior. Based on your conduct, Major League Baseball is banning you indefinitely from all MLB stadiums, offices, and other facilities.”
The league also said if they showed up at any MLB property or event, they would be removed and subject to arrest for trespassing.
The Post reported that both fans were using the seats of a season-ticket holder, who will be allowed to retain the seats.
